American Gladiators was taped from 1989 through 1996. Mattel and Irwin released the toy series in 1991. It featured 4" action figures and playsets based on events from the show. Sadly the series did not fair so well in the states, and some items were only released by Irwin for the Canadian market. Over the years American Gladiators gained a loyal following. Reruns of the show have done well, so NBC decided to make a new version of the series. Some aspects of the show have not changed, such as some of the challenges. Others are brand new, such as the new cast of Gladiators, and the host, Hulk Hogan.
